“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now.” -Chinese Proverb
“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now.”

Why plant a tree:  Planting a tree can save you energy costs and add a lot of value to your property. A deciduous tree (one that looses leaves in the winter) will cast shade in the hot summer months and allow light in during the cold winter months. A tree planted in the South West Corner will maximum cooling. It is estimated that a well treed lot with mature trees increases property value by 5%. The average home value in Toronto is close to $800,000 – that is $40,000!

Each tree that is growing is capturing carbon and reducing the carbon in the atmosphere while producing oxygen. Every day each acre of trees is cleaning as much pollution as a car would create if it traveled halfway around the world. Trees absorb water – reducing storm water run off.  Trees and forests promote good mental health and increased cognition.

Most cities have a target in their urban forest management plans to increase the canopy cover percentage. You  can do your part!
